Soy Creeps into the Food Supply

April 7, 2007
As someone who actually reads the labels on the foods I buy, I've notice a deeply disturbing trend. More and more processed foods, and even those with minimal processing, now contain soy.
Since I am allergic to soy and know that most forms of soy are toxic to humans (see my previous blog on soy Soy Damage? for details), I find this trend very disturbing. It is now hard to find a processed food that doesn't contain soy - probably 60-70+% at this point. From cereals, to crackers, to soups, to condiments - it is everywhere. The majority of processed foods now have soy protein, soy isolate, soybean oil or other soy products in them
- even a nut mix I wanted to buy had raisins with soybean oil in them.
Take a look for yourself on your next trip to the grocery store. Yet another reason to avoid processed foods of all kinds.
It is simply more evidence of a corporate controlled food supply that is indifferent to the population it is supposed to serve. The bottom line is that big agro simply wants to increase its profits and do not care if the population health suffers as a result.
To me, it appears that since they can no longer include trans fats to increase flavor they have opted for soybean oil as the substitute (your health be damned).
Of course, there is the serious marketing effort put behind soy products in general over the past 10 years to consider. Despite evidence to the contrary, they (big agro and their bought and paid for servants big media) continue to tell us that soy is good for us when it isn't. It is the opposite. In fact, other than miso, tempeh, soybean sprouts and natto forms of soy (mainly the fermented forms), all other forms are harmful to human health.
